Permanent Residence Class Proposed for Semi-Skilled Workers

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has recently proposed an amendment to the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA) to introduce a new permanent economic immigration class. This new class would specifically target workers whose experience and training fall under the Training, Education, Experience, and Responsibilities (TEER) levels 4 and 5.

The introduction of this class is intended to modernize the economic immigration system by broadening the selection criteria for permanent residents to include candidates with a more diverse range of skills and experiences. This shift recognizes the vital contributions of semi-skilled workers to the Canadian economy and aims to create a more inclusive pathway for these individuals to gain permanent residency.

According to IRCC, more detailed information, including ministerial instructions about the new class and potential pathways, is expected to be released this fall in the Canada Gazette.
